A small group showed up to Black Rock City in 2016 as a tiny camp called SHLTRD. We had a sound system, some shade, and the desire to build something we would be proud to share with the people around us. We came home after that burn and started planning…

The next year we joined forces with SecondStar. Together we learned how to scale — how to feed and host a larger crew, program music with intent, and best care for an impermanent city. We left the playa looking forward to our return with a name that captured the joining of two camp families. Horizon was born.

Eight years on as Horizon and ten years total on playa and we have continued to evolve our identity. We are a music camp with curated sets throughout the week, including sunrise programming on Esplanade. We are a build camp with truss, shade, lighting, and a bar where visitors can mingle and chill. And we are an inclusive community who shows up year after year, often with the same crew and always with the same love and care.
